Apple expects higher demand than it saw for previous iPhones.
Apple has reportedly told its suppliers to prepare to deliver 90 million iPhone 13 units before the end of 2021 — an increase of 20% on the usual order of 75 million.
A new Bloomberg report claims that Apple has asked for the increased number of units because it believes that there will be huge demand for new iPhones in an increasingly post-COVID world. This is also the first iPhone to launch with 5G that won't have its launch restricted by COVID-19 measures at retail, too.
The Cupertino, California-based tech giant has maintained a consistent level in recent years of roughly 75 million units for the initial run from a device's launch through the end of the year. The upgraded forecast for 2021 would suggest the company anticipates its first iPhone launch since the rollout of Covid-19 vaccines will unlock additional demand. The next iPhones will be Apple's second with 5G, a key enticement pushing users to upgrade.
The new iPhone 13 lineup is expected to largely follow the same format as the outgoing iPhone 12 model, but with some feature improvements across the board. New camera improvements are expected throughout, while a new 120Hz ProMotion display will reportedly come to the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max products. That high refresh rate will allow for smoother scrolling and on-screen animations, while the screen will also be able to conserve power by reducing the rate at which it refreshes.
Apple is expected to announce the new iPhones this coming September. That doesn't mean there aren't some iPhone 12 deals to be had, though. There's still time to bag a bargain.
