Nintendo has announced that Super Mario Party will receive a free update today that will add online play with friends or with anyone with your lobby's password.

The newest update, 1.1.0, will add online play to the following:
- Mario Party
- Partner Party
- Free Play
To play with others via the internet, players must select which one of the above modes they'd like to play, then select "Online Play". Players will have the option to select "Friend Match", which takes them to their Friends List and shows which friends are able to play online. Persons can utilize the "Invite Friend" feature, which allows their friends to join their game via the "Online Play Invites" page within the Friends List menu. However, Online Mariothon does not support the Invite Friend feature.
Players can also select "Private Game", where a password can be generated and given to anyone who would like to play online. Content creators like streamers, for example, could use Private Game to play online matches with their viewers. For those playing together online, all characters and maps will be available to select, regardless of how far any of the players have privately progressed in their own copies of the game. However, only 70 of the 80 available mini-games will be available to choose from in games played via the internet.
