iPhone 13 to feature bigger battery, more mmWave 5G, says Trendforce

Trendforce says its investigations reiterate previous rumors...

What you need to know

  • The iPhone 13 is just a few weeks away.
  • A new report reiterates we can expect better battery life and other upgrades.
  • Trendforce says the new iPhone will offer more mmWave 5G support too.

A new report from Trendforce says that Apple's iPhone 13 will offer increased battery sizes and improved upgrades over the iPhone 12, according to its latest report.

The research outlet states:

The iPhone 13 series, which is about to be formally announced by Apple, has already had its exterior design speculated on by various media outlets and fans alike. TrendForce's latest investigations indicate that some of the notable hardware upgrades of the iPhone 13 pertain to the SoC (manufactured at the 5nm+ node, which enables improved performance and decreased power consumption), display, and camera. In addition, iPhone handsets featuring support for 5G mmWave will be available for sale in more countries after the release of iPhone 13.

TF also reiterates rumors that Apple will adopt a new circuit board over its previous rigid-flex PCB design. The new design will feature SiP combined with a flexible PCB to make more space inside the phone, this, in turn, will provide for a larger battery.

Trendforce also says the new iPhone will be priced the same as the iPhone 12, currently Apple's best iPhone because there are no "significant hardware upgrades".

Previous reports have indicated that the new phone could get larger batteries:

Multiple sources are sharing information that claims to show the battery capacities for the iPhone 13 lineup that would mean a huge jump in capacity across the board over iPhone 12.

Multiple users on Weibo have shared images reportedly showing models of battery that will feature in the next iPhone, expected to debut later this year.

The information, contained within the depicted table shows three sizes of battery, 4352mAh, 3095mAh, and 2406mAh.

With rumors of a new LTPO display and 120Hz refresh rate for the 'Pro' iPhone, it is unclear if larger batteries would lead to more battery life or simply performance matching the current lineup. With a rumored iPhone event expected in September, we don't have long to wait and find out.
