A new report has reiterated that Apple is planning to upgrade its MacBook and iPad lineup with OLED displays in the future.
As reported by The Elec:
Apple's OLED panel order for those that it plans to use on its iPads launching in 2022 and 2023 are not being, but Cupertino is planning to launch OLED notebooks later as well, so Samsung Display is preparing for this, the person said.
Tech already used in Apple's best iPhones, multiple reports have previously indicated that Apple is planning to bring larger OLED displays to more of its product lineup. ET News previously reported that some iPad models in 2022 will get OLED, as has Ming-Chi Kuo who says that Apple will adopt OLED in the iPad Air in 2022, making it an early contender for best iPad in next year's lineup.
Apple is reportedly planning a new line of mini-LED MacBook Pro models for later this year, after debuting the tech in the M1 iPad Pro (2021) earlier this year. As The Elec notes this may be a short-lived upgrade if Apple is planning OLED MacBook models as well. Digitimes reported a similar story back in March, claiming Apple is planning a new 16 or even 17-inch MacBook Pro with OLED for next year. It could be that Apple plans to use OLED to differentiate some of its more premium products from mini-LED, rather than replacing the technology after just a year or so in circulation.
