Nintendo's mobile Dr. Mario game is being shut down

Players will also be unable to purchase diamonds after this month.

What you need to know

  • Dr. Mario World is a match-three puzzle game published by Nintendo.
  • Nintendo has announced that the game's service will be ending on November 1, 2021.
  • Players will be unable to purchase diamonds starting on July 28, 2021.

In 2019, Nintendo collaborated with Line Corporation and NHN Entertainment to publish the match-three game Dr. Mario World on iOS and Android. The game released to middling reviews, and was one of the least popular mobile games published by Nintendo.

Nintendo recently announced in a blog post that they would be shutting down the service this year. The game's service will officially shut down in its entirety on November 1, 2021 at 6 a.m. UTC. However, players will no longer be able to purchase diamonds for in-game advantages starting from July 28, 2021.

Anyone who picks up the game after the game's service has ended will be unable to play the game, with an end-of-service notification being displayed on-screen. For those who have played before, they will be able to view a portion of their player history via the Dr. Mario World Memories. This is a web page that will become available after the service ends. Dr. Mario World Memories will save a portion of one's player history on the server, which can be deleted later if need be.
