Australia's NAB has today announced that HICAPS practitioners in the country will now accept membership cards help in Apple Wallet, enabling customers to make health insurance claims with their Apple Watch or iPhone.
In a press release NAB stated:
NAB today announced it now offers HICAPS practitioners the ability to accept digital health insurance membership cards in Apple Wallet.
The move allows customers to make a health insurance claim by simply holding their iPhone or Apple Watch near any HICAPS terminal in Australia – creating a true digital wallet experience. Customers can also pay for gap payments simply and securely using Apple Pay.
NAB Executive for Business Everyday Banking, Tania Motton stated "we're excited to offer health practitioners the ability to accept digital health insurance membership cards through iPhone and Apple Watch at all HICAPS terminals across Australia."
Motton stated that claims made using the method would reduce the time spent manually processing claims where customers had forgotten their cards, making the claims process and ultimately customer payments much faster.
Medibank, Bupa, nib, and GU Health fund members can download their membership cards digitally and add them to Apple wallet, claiming benefits by using their Apple Watch or iPhone rather than their plastic membership card. Members will also get real-time notifications about their claims within their health fund's app.
Customers also benefit from the encryption of Apple Pay and Apple Wallet, meaning customer identifiers are encrypted during transmission to the terminals, none of the data goes to Apple.
