Ulysses 23 adds Ghost publishing support, interface improvements, and more

What you need to know

  • Popular writing app Ulysses has been updated to add support for publishing to Ghost blogs for the first time.
  • Interface changes make it easier to see which posts have been published.

Ulysses 23 changes the way it tracks your writing history, too.

Popular iPhone, iPad, and Mac writing app Ulysses is out with its big version 23 update and it adds new publishing features as well as interface changes to make it easier to see what has been uploaded, and what hasn't.

The new update, available for download from the App Store now, has a headline feature — the ability to post content to blogs hosted on the Ghost platform. Support for WordPress already existed and with Ghost's popularity growing, it makes sense for it to be part of Ulysses as well.

Ulysses 23 makes it easier to see which posts have already been published as well. A new paper plane icon will denote a post that's been uploaded.

Alongside the new features, Ulysses 23 also includes an all-new writing session history — one that should be more accurate, according to the app's developer. The app has long offered writers the chance to set a goal for their daily writing habit, but it turns out the calculations Ulysses was doing might not have been all that accurate.

Unfortunately, we have to admit, our original approach to calculating the writing session history had a couple of design flaws. The result was that, in the past, the statistics did not always conform to the user's expectations. Problems arose, for example, when they used iCloud and frequently switched between devices or collected research in material sheets, which should not count toward their writing target. All of these things made a profound rewrite necessary. So, users of daily goals can now rely again on the session history.

All of this is available for download from the App Store and Mac App Store now. Ulysses is a free download with a 14-day trial available. After that, a monthly $5.99 or annual $49.99 subscription is needed. Ulysses is one of the best Mac apps for writers and is worth every penny!
