What you need to know

  • Apple TV+ movie Emancipation has reportedly seen filming paused following a number of positive COVID-19 tests among the crew.
  • The hiatus is expected to last for almost a week.

The Will Smith movie has already been through a change of location and this latest issue won't help.

Upcoming Apple TV+ movie Emancipation has seen filming paused following the positive COVID-19 testing of some of its crew. The temporary stop is expected to last almost a week.

According to a Deadline report, the hiatus begins today and is likely to run for around five days.

I hear the cast and crew were just notified about the hiatus, which starts tomorrow and is expected to last approximately five days. Done out of abundance of caution, it comes about two weeks into the shoot of the high-profile movie, directed by Antoine Fuqua from a William N. Collage script. This is the latest Hollywood production to pause filming due to positive tests in the past few weeks as the country is grappling with a new Covid wave fueled by the high contagious Delta strain.

This is the second time the Will Smith movie has had to deal with a setback. After initially being set to film in Georgia, director Antoine Fuqua and Will Smith pulled the plug because of controversial voting law changes. Filming is now taking place in Louisiana.

In the movie, Smith plays Peter, a slave who fled a plantation in Louisiana after almost being killed by whipping. The thriller is based on a true story that was "indisputable proof of the barbarity of slavery in America."
