Twitter Spaces might let you change how your voice sounds in future

What you need to know

  • Twitter appears to be testing a feature that will let users change how they sound in Spaces.
  • Voices like Bee, Stadium, and more are in the works.

Why? Nobody knows.

Twitter appears to be working on a new voice transformation feature for its popular Spaces feature, although there is no timeline for when it will be made available.

First spied by Twitter interrogator Jane Munchun Wong, the feature suggests that people will be able to choose from multiple different effects when changing their voices with a preview option also available.

What's more, developer Steve Moser was able to dive into the Twitter app and discover what at least some of the new options will be, with Bee, Cartoon, Helium, Incognito, Karaoke, Microphone, Phone, Spatial, Stadium, and Stage all on the table so far. It's possible that the list will grow or shrink before the feature is made available to everyone, however.

Unfortunately, this is another feature that will be limited to those who use the official Twitter app, leaving many of us out in the cold. Few would argue that Twitter is the best iPhone app for keeping tabs on what your friends are up to, but with more features like Spaces presumably in the works, it's becoming more difficult to ignore the things we're missing out on when using third-party alternatives.

Twitter continues to work to add more value to its social network and is also thought to improving its verification process, while also potentially requiring a similar approval process before people can accept money via its Tip Jar feature, too.
