What you need to know
- Bloomberg's Mark Gurman says that there won't be any more product announcements until iPhone 13 and Apple Watch Series 7 are announced this fall.
- New Macs and iPads are thought coming, but not yet.
It's going to be a quiet few weeks.
Apple is expected to announce four new iPhones and an Apple Watch or two this fall, but it's going to be a quiet one between now and then according to a new report by Bloomberg's Mark Gurman.
Writing in the first Power On newsletter, Gurman says that all of Apple's attention is on this coming fall, leaving a gap between now and iPhone announcement day.
For Apple, all attention is on the fall, so the next several weeks are destined to be light on product news. We're about three months away from the next iPhone and Apple Watch models going on sale—along with the releases of iOS 15, iPadOS 15 and watchOS 8, so stay tuned for plenty of news on those after the summer doldrums.
That's notable because we've already been told to keep our eyes peeled for new tablets and Macs to be announced before the end of the year. It now seems that none of those products are going to arrive before iPhone 13.
[...] don't forget about the iPad and Mac: Apple has a new entry-level iPad for students and revamped MacBook Pros and iPad minis coming later this year, too.
Gurman has a reasonable track record with these things, although it certainly isn't 100%. A lull before iPhone announcement day in mid-September does seem to work so I guess we'll just live on iPhone leaks until then!
A new iPad mini is long overdue and we've been hoping for a new high end Apple silicon 16-inch MacBook Pro for months now. I'm absolutely here for the latter, but I'm not sure my wallet is. Maybe I should check out the best MacBook available today and save some money instead!
