Apple kicks iPhone 13 production off ahead of expected September launch

What you need to know

  • Apple is reportedly pulling in orders from its parts suppliers ahead of iPhone 13 production.
  • Apple is expected to announce four iPhone 13 models this September.

Apple is ahead of schedule compared to last year's COVID-19-hit plans.

Apple has set the production wheels in motion that will ultimately see millions of iPhone 13 handsets stockpiled in its warehouses ahead of an expected September launch, according to a new report.

Citing supply chain sources, DigiTimes reports that Cyntec, in particular, is already benefitting from Apple's moves to make sure iPhone 13 is ready to go this fall, with the company set to post a 25% revenue increase for the second quarter of 2021 thanks purely to iPhone parts orders.

Apple is thought to be getting parts from manufacturers so that it can then begin the mass production of all four iPhone 13 models. The company will need to stockpile millions of the devices before September. In terms of Cyntec, DigiTimes says the company is providing parts that will be used to bring mmWave 5G support to more countries. mmWave 5G is only supported in the United States when using the iPhone 12 lineup.

Cyntec is also set to secure more orders from Apple in the third quarter as over 50% of this year's new iPhones will support 5G mmWave communication, which requires more power chokes and other inductors to enable the technology, said the sources.

Apple's schedule is always tight by design, with last year's iPhone 12 launch going awry because of COVID-19 pressures around the globe. Apple missed its normal September window, but no such issue is expected this time around.

Regardless of when it ships, the iPhone 13 lineup will offer the best iPhone Apple has ever sold thanks to increased mmWave 5G support, rumored camera improvements, and a 120Hz ProMotion display for a smoother scrolling experience.
