Voice Control on Apple's smart speakers now available for Premium, HiFi, Family and Student subscribers

What you need to know

  • Deezer has today announced it is bringing Siri support to HomePod and HomePod mini.
  • All paying subscribers on iOS 14.3 onwards will be able to use Siri to ask for music.
  • It will also work with Deezer HiFi for high-fidelity audio.

Deezer has today announced that it is bringing support for Siri to both the HomePod and HomePod mini for all of its paying customers.

It means that from today, customers will be able to set Deezer as their default music service on HomePod and iOS and ask Siri to play any song from its library.

The feature will be available to all paying iOS 14.3 users with a HomePod or HomePod mini. Users will be able to ask for their Deezer Flow, or indeed any specific track, artist, album, or playlist. Users can also ask for music "on Deezer" if they don't want to change their default setting.

The support will also work for Deezer HiFi subscribers, bringing high-fidelity audio to the HomePod and HomePod mini with Siri controls. Deezer's Nicolas Pinoteau said that even without HiFi Apple's HomePod was the perfect home companion to Deezer.

The new update will be available in Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Japan, Mexico, Spain, UK, and USA, and simply requires the Deezer app and a connected HomePod. The service won't allow users to shuffle their favorite tracks, nor does it currently support podcasts, audiobooks, or live radio.

Bottom line: Apple is preaching to the choir with this one, a tremendous speaker for its price and size, but only for those who are already invested in Apple's ecosystem of products and services.
