In light of the global pandemic, the video game industry has seen a surge in demand, from contemporary consoles like the PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch, to retro games on second-hand marketplaces like eBay. While this would normally be viewed in a positive light, the reality is that with pandemic lockdowns and reduced labour forces in crucial supply chains, the supply unfortunately struggles to meet the demand.
Nintendo struggled to meet demand even before the pandemic, with consoles being scarce in some areas around the launch of Animal Crossing: New Horizons. The Nintendo Switch finally managed to outsell the Nintendo 3DS, with 79.87 million units being soldworldwide as of December 2020. While the future is unclear, we do know that Nintendo is trying their best to ensure that everyone is able to experience the amazing games that the Nintendo Switch has to offer.
