Disney is ready to up the price of its streaming service for the first time.
What you need to know
- Disney+ is hiking its prices this Friday.
- All of the monthly subscriptions will increase by $1.
- The yearly subscription will also increase by $10.
Disney+, one of the most popular streaming services in the world, is about to get more expensive for subscribers in the United States.
As reported by MacRumors, the price hike comes after the service has passed a major landmark of over 100 million subscribers.
Disney+ first announced the price increase back in December, and it comes following many successful TV show releases like "The Mandalorian," "WandaVision," and "Falcon and the Winter Soldier," along with movies like "Soul."
As of March, Disney+ has surpassed 100 million subscribers.
The Disney+ website breaks down the price increases as follows:
- Disney+ will now be $7.99/month or $79.99/year
- Disney Bundle with Hulu (Ad-supported) will now be $13.99/month
- Disney Bundle with Hulu (No Ads) will now be $19.99/month
As the website explains, existing customers will not be able to avoid the price increase either. Those subscribers will also see their monthly rate increase on or after March 26.
As of 03/26/21, the price of Disney+ will be $7.99/month or $79.99/year. The price of The Disney Bundle with Hulu (Ad-supported) will be $13.99/month and The Disney Bundle with Hulu (No Ads) will be $19.99/month. Prices for existing subscribers will increase on the first bill on or after 3/26/21.
For those who want to enjoy the original price for as long as possible, your only bet would be to purchase a yearly subscription before Friday. That would allow you to lock in another year of service for $69.99 instead of $79.99. While you could sign up for the monthly service now for $6.99, your rate will still increase to $7.99/month in April.
